We began the evening with a delectable salmon dinner prepared by our Marshal - "Chef" Robert Qualsund - assisted by Brother Gordon Schlicke and JW Gordon Guthrie. The Job's Daughters of Bethel #28 lent their superb support. Following dinner, we were awed by the authentic, historical presentation by Brewster Denny, Professor and Dean Emeritus, University of Washington, and Great Grandson of Arthur and Mary Denny, founders of Seattle and the University of Washington. Our Chaplain - Mac Macdonald - assisted. It was fascinating to hear of the early days of Seattle and how the streets in Seattle were named.

We were thrilled to hear that Eureka Lodge #20 is a winner of the Mark Twain Masonic Awareness Award for 2008. This national award recognizes lodges that have demonstrated exemplary work in constructing a positive Masonic identity within the lodge and for the local community. Eureka's emphasis on science education in the community was the major reason for our recognition. The formal presentation of this award will be at the 2009 Grand Lodge Annual Communication, June 11-13, in Spokane, Washington.

Past Master's Night. We began the night with a splendid dinner, and as always, the Job's Daughters of Bethel #28 lent their superb support and helped to ensure that everything ran smoothly. Following dinner, we were mesmerized by the interpretive photo presentation by Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Jerry Gay. A lifelong photojournalist, Jerry shared with us - through pictures he took over the years - his thoughts about how we see ourselves and our world and how this creates everyday reality. His prize winning photograph - taken when he was a Seattle Times news photographer - is entitled "Lull in the Battle" and powerfully depicts firemen in a moment of deep reflection after battling a fire in Burien on 10/11/74. The meeting was also the official visit by our District Deputy - VWB Michael Cuadra - and his remarks were inspiring. It was Past Master's Night and was fantastic to see so many Eureka Past Masters attend.
